On Saturday October 5 from 10 am – 3 pm, Progressive Newton has a table on the 2nd floor of the Mall at Chestnut Hill.  We will be greeting shoppers and asking them to sign the petitions, and telling them a bit about our work.  This is a wonderful opportunity for anyone who prefers not to stand or walk.  Please email us if you’re interested in being there for an hour or two.

Also on Saturday at 12 pm., we will meet at the Starbucks on Austin St., just off Walnut.  We will collect petitions by Shaw’s and other busy spots in Newtonville. Come join us.

On Sunday, October 6 at 11 am, meet us in Newton Center outside of Johnnie’s Luncheonette.  This is always a great spot to find the brunch crowd!!  We will be talking to folks and gathering signatures.

Raise Up Massachusetts Campaign Kick-off!

Join the Fight for Economic Justice in MA!

  • Raise the Minimum Wage
  • Guarantee Earned Sick-Time Leave

Newton Petition Launch
with Rep. Kay Khan and others

10 am, Saturday September 21st
458 Newtonville Avenue, Newtonville (MAP)

The minimum wage in Massachusetts has been stuck at $8 an hour since 2008, yet costs keep rising. Workers are long overdue for a raise! Families can’t afford basic necessities, and it’s an everyday struggle to put food on the table and keep a roof over their heads.

Also… For nearly 1 million workers in Massachusetts, staying home to care for themselves or a sick child could mean losing their job. Workers should be able to earn one hour of sick time for every 30 hours worked, up to at least 40 hours a year, so that they don’t have to risk losing their jobs to care for themselves or their families.

Progressive Newton, the local chapter of Progressive Massachusetts, is working with a coalition of organizations across the state to raise the minimum wage and to ensure that it keeps pace with the rising cost of living and to guarantee earned sick time leave.

Join Progressive Newton on 9/21!  Help us collect signatures. We have just eight weeks to put these questions on the ballot across Massachusetts!

For more info: email ProgressiveNewton@gmail.com or find Progressive Newton on Facebook. You can download a description of the two bills HERE.

Welcome to Progressive Newton!

Progressive Newton LogoProgressive Newton is a chapter of Progressive Massachusetts, a statewide, diverse grassroots organization mobilizing around progressive issues. Our primary mission is to advance Progressive Massachusetts’s state-level program; our current priorities are the three Raise Up Massachusetts campaigns (Paid Family Medical Leave, Fight for $15 minimum wage, and the Fair Share Amendment), the Safe Communities Act, and criminal justice reform. We also organize around local issues and, on occasion, support strong progressive candidates at the local level. If you’re a progressive, and you live in Newton, Massachusetts, join us!
